Sanchez to miss start of season for Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez will miss at least the first two games of the Premier League season for Arsenal, with coach Arsene Wenger saying the absence is due to injury rather than doubts surrounding the forward's future at the club.

However, the Independent reports that Paris Saint-Germain, who have only just shelled out £198million for Neymar from Barcelona, are preparing an £80m bid.

He will certainly miss Friday's opener at home to Leicester City while Wenger confirmed he is also likely to sit out the trip to Stoke City a week later.

"Alexis will not be available", he said when asked about team news ahead of the visit of the Foxes. He has a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training, before he came to Wembley. I don't know [how long he will be out] - two weeks, one more week.

"I like the player because I have good friends in A Coruña", he said.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ is desperate to link up with his former boss Pep Guardiola, according to reports.

The Ligue 1 outfit recently smashed the world record to sign Neymar from Barcelona but the newspaper says they still want to land Sanchez and are prepared to break the bank to prevent him joining Man City next summer.

Arsenal, without Sanchez, will host Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night, to kick off the new season.

"I can't tell you that at the moment", he said.

Pushed on whether he expected Al-Khelaifi to get in touch, he added: "No, no".

Wenger was coy, though, when he was asked if any bids had been tabled for Sanchez. "I think if you read the French papers, they are on (Kylian) Mbappe's case to finish their transfer market".
