Haryana stalking case: Vikas, friend sent to judicial custody till Aug 25

Key accused in Chandigarh stalking case Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish have been sent to judicial custody till August 25 on Saturday by a local court.

The duo had been earlier remanded in police custody for two days till August 12.

The notice was issued to both the accused, under 160 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the case was filed against Barala under Section 354D (stalking), 341 (wrongful restraint), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 185 MV Act (rash driving). The court allowed the application and the two will now be produced in court on August 24.

The duo, Vikas Barala and Ashish Kumar, were first arrested on the night of August 4 for stalking and harassing Varnika Kundu (Daughter of IAS officer) for almost 45 minutes. They were, however, granted bail on the same day.

Meanwhile, after CM Khattar, his cabinet colleagues including outspoken minister Anil Vij have now come out in defence of the state BJP President Subhash Barala whose son Vikas is current behind bars.

Sources say that the police pressed for custody as they will require both the accused to conduct further investigation in relation to the complaint made by the victim. The case has garnered overwhelming support from people all around the country, with various media houses campaigning for the stalker son's arrest.

When asked if India still is unsafe for women, Fatima said, "There are many places where women don't feel safe, but luckily I feel very safe in Mumbai". Vij said there is just no justification to seek the resignation of the state BJP chief as he is in no way involved in the incident.
