Actress Oviya is a popular contestant in the 'Bigg Boss Tamil' reality show hosted by veteran actor Kamal Haasan, who recently left the show citing medical reasons, has been summoned by the Nazarathpet police following a complaint filed by an advocate alleging her that she attempted suicide inside the house. Even Kamal Haasan took to twitter to apologise and expressed his anger over the fact that the show makers made fun of differently abled people. Therefore, police have now issued summons to Oviya for her clarification the issue.
According to a report in IBT, Unconfirmed reports had earlier claimed that Oviya was paid Rs 2.5 lakh per day for her stay in the Bigg Boss house.
The complainant alleged that the host and the producers of the show forced Oviya to attempt suicide in a bid to increase the TRP of the show. This comes after the sudden exit of Oviya and eviction of Juliana from the show. "We spoke to Oviya's personal secretary, who denied that she attempted suicide", the police inspector was quoted as saying to the Hindu.
On the other hand, the Madras High Court has sought details of the mechanism available under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for monitoring such issues after a PIL was filed demanding a ban on the show.
The petitioner has called for the show to be stopped immediately on the grounds of protecting Tamil culture and in the interests of the general public. The matter has been posted for next hearing which is scheduled for August 18.
