Gun fight broke out between a group of militants and the security forces in Awneera village of Jammu and Kashmir's southern Shopian district on Saturday evening.
Two soldiers have been killed and three injured in the on-going gunfight in South Kashmir's Shopian district.
Meanwhile, different reports suggest presence of 10 to 13 militants even though the number could not be officially confirmed.
Earlier, a search operation was launched by the security forces in Noorabad village of Pulwama's Tral area but the militants hiding in there managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the sources said. "We are unable to retrieve the body as the firing is underway from the both sides".
The exchange of began after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Awneera village after they suspected of terrorist activity.
As such the joint team was moving towards the target area, the militants in a bid to break the cordon fired upon them, triggering off a fierce encounter.
The injured soldiers were shifted to army's base hospital in Badami Bagh area of Srinagar city. Attempts are being made to smoke them out.
