Teenager arrested in Saudi Arabia for dancing

A teenager who stopped traffic as he danced the Macarena in the middle of the street has been arrested by Saudi police for "violating public morals".

The clip was understood to have first been posted in July 2016, the BBC reported.

The name and nationality of the teenager was not disclosed, and was interrogated because he had shown "improper public behaviour" and disrupted the traffic, a statement given by the Makkah police said.

Video of the boy dancing went viral. It was not stated whether the boy will be formally charged.

The Abu Dhabi Police had recently arrested four people, including a woman, after a video of her having a conversation with one of the arrested men was uploaded on the Internet last week.

In the 45- second video, the boy is wearing a striped t-shirt, grey shorts and brightly coloured crocs shoes, dancing in the middle of a crosswalk.

Earlier this month, Saudi authorities arrested popular singer Abdallah Al Shahani for "dabbing" at a concert in the Saudi city of Taif. In it, the youth is performing the characteristic dance in the Saudi port city of Jeddah, as another person films the apparently prepared stunt from the sidewalk.

Saudi Arabia had banned the dance move, alleging it advocates marijuana use.
