Aside from starring in it, Orlando Bloom will also be involved in its production.
Orlando Bloom will star in Amazon Original Series Carnival Row it has been announced. His investigation puts him right in the middle of simmering tensions between the human and inhuman inhabitants of the city, and may expose an even bigger plot.
Carnival Row is set to premiere in 2019, with filming beginning this fall. They will be joined in their endeavour by Paul McGuigan (Sherlock, Victor Frankenstein), who will direct and executive-produce. The project, which is supposed to be four hours long, will have Bloom star as a detective by the name of Rycroft Philostrate investigating the killing of a faerie showgirl.
However, this is Bloom's first series regular role, and not surprisingly, it occurs on a non-network, shorter run series.
We have also learned that Carnival Row, which is the series" title, can be described as a "fantasy-noir set in a neo-Victorian city'. According to Vulture, Rycroft is attempting "to get to the bottom of a faerish refugee's death".
Carnival Row will be Orlando Bloom's first major TV role, but certainly not his first foray into the fantasy genre. Echevarria, with hard-earned credentials on TV hits like Castle, Medium and Teen Wolf, will write and executive produce, and McGuigan adds his renowned directorial talent to the eight-episode drama.
Carnival Row sounds like a big push from Amazon into the ~genre~ space with original content.
