Apple introduced its latest iPhones and Apple Watch models on september 12 confirming most of the rumors that have circulated in recent weeks, including an anticipated 10 anniversary iPhone X, new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models, several new Apple Watch models and a new Apple TV unit. Some Android phones have also previously eliminated the home button and added edge-to-edge screens.

The presentation also included a tribute to Steve Jobs, a look at the new Apple Park and some other highlights.

"Apple is hoping the later availability date for iPhone X will not affect iPhone 8 sales this quarter", he said.

As expected, the X loses the home button, which revolutionised smartphones when it launched and instead will use facial recognition to unlock the phone. The iPhone X (pronounced iPhone "ten") was launched on Tuesday morning, alongside an updated Apple Watch and Apple TV. These advanced depth-sensing technologies work together to securely unlock iPhone, enable Apple Pay, gain access to secure apps and many more new features.

Both versions will allow wireless charging. Apple says there is a deeper strengthening layer in the glass that makes it the "most durable in a smartphone'". "The iPhone X is the realization of that vision".

Pre-orders start on October 27 and the phone will be available beginning November 3, the company said. These two new models come as upgrades to last year's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and they bring much-needed upgrades to the table. The new phones promise to shoot pictures with better colors and less distortion, particularly in low-light settings. If you buy the wrong charging pad or your new vehicle doesn't support the right type, it won't work with Apple's new phones.

Apple has unveiled its new generation of iPhone, the 8 and the 8 Plus. That said, the front-facing camera also comes with a Portrait mode with Apple's new Portrait Lighting feature. This is unlike the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which starts shipping on September 22. This was the biggest news besides the iPhone X's incredible features like edge to edge display, revamped design, AR integration, improvements to the camera, chipset and more.

You've more colour options in the 8 range, with Space Grey, Silver and Gold on offer.

The screens however, are where things diverge, as the standard iPhone 8 sports a 4.7-inch 1334 x 750 LCD, while the 8 Plus features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920 x 1080) LCD.

The same sensors that power Face ID will also support some interesting new features, especially when it comes to augmented reality. Here's more information, how it works, and where you'll actually need wires to charge your iPhone 8. The current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus now start at $549 and $669, respectively.

The 256GB model meanwhile in the United States will sell for US$1149 (A$1433), compared to the Australian price of A$1829 - a difference of A$396. The price of Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular starts at $399 and the non-cellular variant starts at $329.
