Blast outside Afghanistan cricket stadium during league match; 2 killed

At least three Taliban militants were killed and their hideout destroyed after Afghan army launched an airstrike in the eastern province of Nangarhar, Afghan military said Wednesday.

At least two people were killed when an explosion took place during a cricket league match at Kabul International Stadium on Wednesday.

Five other civilians were injured when the bomb went off, none of them cricket players, he added. All players are safe and a cricket match, which was underway, was stopped immediately, Tolo News reported.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed the blast outside the Kabul International Cricket Stadium, Afghan media reports said.

The blast reportedly took place while a game was being played, near one of the gates of the stadium, Ministry of Interior spokesman Najib Danish told CNN.

The explosion happened at around 3:45 p.m., police spokesman Basir Mojahid said.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack.

Both Afghanistan and Pakistan are deprived of hosting regular global cricket games due to the security problem in their countries.
