Gennady Golovkin hopes Canelo Alvarez fight will rank him with middleweight greats

When Mexican boxing sensation Saul "Canelo" Alvarez steps into the ring on September 16, he will be facing off against undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, a fighter who does nothing but go forward with heavy pressure and power.

Golovkin, the unbeaten knockout puncher from Kazakhstan, will defend his middleweight titles against Alvarez, Mexico's biggest boxing star. "Seriously, I don't know, just my training every day, I'm just the same", he said. I don't know, I remember a lot of great champions, like Carlos Monzon, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Bernard Hopkins. I'm just more focused.

On the flip side, this is not unfamiliar territory for Golovkin: the 35-year-old has been favored in every one of his 37 previous fights, although he's never been favored by less than he is against Canelo.

"I always prepare myself to give the best".

"I feel good and I am ready for anybody". "As hard as they both hit I think Canelo will take the fight on points", Khan said.

Reverting to plan B, Lemieux started trying to walk down Golovkin in the middle rounds which lead to a similar lack of success in finding the gaps in Golovkin's defence.

In terms of the size of the challenge and the performance, many will look back at this fight as one of the defining night in the career of GGG. And the ideal fight for me. "I believe that on Saturday night I will show that I am the number one". I've wanted it for a very long time and for the last couple of weeks all I've wanted to do was get into the ring with this guy. Right now for us it's huge.

"This is without doubt the boxing event of 2017, and I am delighted that Nicola has the chance to showcase her skills on such a huge bill", added Adams' promoter Frank Warren.
