Kentucky football motivated for SC

SC opened their season with a win against NC State and then earned a victory on the road at Mizzou.

For the second straight week, Samuel returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, helping SC erase an early deficit and beat Missouri 31-13 on Saturday night in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams. "I think all of those things are a combination of things, but he, personally, has invested himself into this", Muschamp said. "A huge momentum swing in the game". The 6-foot, 215-pounder from Inman, S.C., enters this week's contest against visiting Kentucky averaging 15.0 yards per rush, 12.8 yards per reception and an eye-popping 97.0 yards per kickoff return.

"He's really good when the ball is in his hands, but he's also really good when it isn't". Twice kicker Austin MacGinnis had to make tackles and at least one appeared to have saved a touchdown. "That's where you know you have a very good football player", Stoops said.

Twice this season SC has given up more yards than it allowed - but the Gamecocks still beat North Carolina State 35-28 and then won 31-13 at Missouri. "We're going get them the ball, just find different ways to do it".

Last week, Samuel returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown in a 35-28 victory over North Carolina State and also grabbed a 39-yard touchdown reception.

But it's not like SC fans need to worry about co-offensive coordinator Kurt Roper involving Samuel in the offense. "We just try to go out there and score more points than the other team". "I'm glad he's on my team and we don't have play against every week".

Samuel is second in the Southeastern Conference in all-purpose yards and leads the league with his five touchdowns. Against Missouri, it was Ty'Son Williams's turn. If anything, it might give George Rogers another Gamecock to vote for this fall.

Lock completed 14 of 32 passes for 245 yards, with two interceptions. Last week against Missouri, Bentley threw for 187 yards and a touchdown. Moore had three catches for 29 yards and dropped two passes. The two kick returns for touchdowns this season ties the school's single-season record and Samuel now owns the school record for kick returns for touchdowns in a career with three, all coming in the last five games.

This time previous year, Kentucky was sitting 0-2 following the first two games of the season. "How are we going to get number one, number 89", Muschamp said. "We didn't play particularly well on the road previous year". Since 2000, only three non-quarterbacks have won the Heisman and all three of those guys were running backs: Reggie Bush, Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry.

Williams maybe stole the show in the second half as the Gamecocks went for 213 second-half yards, 121 on the ground, but Muschamp called Saturday's game a "great team win" in his postgame speech to his team. That has to be better this week because SC leads the SEC in kickoff returning. He finished with 18 carries for 97 yards. Hurst's rushing touchdown came on a jet sweep.

"I don't pay that much attention". With this being game one for Kentucky in the SEC, the Wildcats know that this game is a huge one early in the season.
