Target Corp. announced a major investment for the holiday shopping season.
Target announced Wednesday it's hiring 100,000 seasonal workers this holiday season, a 40% increase from past year.
Same-store sales in the final two months of last year fell 1.3 percent at Target, the company's worst holiday results in three years.
According to this mega-retailer, it plans to hire roughly 100,000 team members across the country for the upcoming holiday season. Getting help with online orders or picking up those items at a store has been a "pretty lousy experience" at many retailers, he said. This marks a significant increase from previous year, when it hired 70,000 seasonal workers.
Prospective hires can also apply online.
Target Corp. said it will hold nationwide hiring events October 13-15 for the holiday jobs. During the events, job seekers can stop in for on-site store position interviews and get a conditional employment offer on the spot. Once hired, the employees are eligible for a 10 percent merchandise discount at Target and Target.com and an additional 20 percent wellness discount on fruits and veggies, Simply Balanced brand foods and C9 athletic gear. Target team members play such an important role in helping guests as they prepare to celebrate the holidays with their families.
