Texans will start Deshaun Watson in Week 2

After giving Tom Savage the starting job to begin the season, the Houston Texans waited just one half to switch to rookie Deshaun Watson. He threw a touchdown pass on his first drive. The Jaguars then sacked Savage forcing a fumble that they recovered on their 47-yard line, allowing Leonard Fournette to score his first career touchdown on a one-yard run.

Watson gave the team and the stadium a much-need spark when he took the field in the second half and was helped by three Jacksonville penalties en route to his first touchdown pass to Hopkins.

When the Houston Texans selected former Clemson quarterback in the first round (No. 12 overall) of April's National Football League draft, the question wasn't if he would be the team's starter.

NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport was reporting the Texans are expected to make the change to Watson as the starter.

The move is not a surprise to the Cincinnati Bengals or their coach, Marvin Lewis, who said made it clear that the Bengals were preparing for Watson even before this announcement.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson passes the ball in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 10, 2017.

"I mean I don't think there's a rule that I have to publicly announce it", O'Brien said.

O'Brien stressed Monday that he wasn't prepared to make a decision, noting there's a lot of moving parts given the Texans' injury situation. Giovani Bernard only carried the ball seven times but finished with 40 yards, including one that went for 23 yards.

They have to establish the running game early, and they have to use rookie D'Onta Foreman more than they did on Sunday when he carried once for 4 yards. Jeremy Hill was also able to gain 26 yards on six carries, including a 12 yard gain. After months of hype, Savage's control over the offense lasted two quarters.

I don't want Bill O'Brien going back-and-forth on QBs, let's stick with the guy we traded up for in this year's draft and have him learn on the fly.
