Gary Lineker 'a sanctimonious little twerp', says Ukip after logo tweet

The Premier League is believed to be consulting its lawyers over accusations that Ukip's new logo is a "rip-off" of the emblem of English football's top flight.

Asked what the new Ukip lion should be called, a party spokesman told The Telegraph: "Flossy".

Politics can often be a messy business at the best of times - now UKIP has taken it to a completely new level by inadvertently advertising a porn site.

Ex-England striker Gary Lineker joined hundreds on Twitter to ridicule the similarity.

A Ukip spokesman said about copying the logo from the EPL: 'We're not that stupid.

However, while the Premier League has not made an official comment, WIPR understands that its legal team was notified of the logo change but will not be taking any action.

Delegates at the conference had voted to choose the lion logo over a second option showing swooping lines in the party's traditional purple and yellow alongside the words "for the nation".

"I wouldn't have this lads", one Twitter user said.

Many in Ukip fear she will turn it into a BNP-style party, and 18 of the party's 20 MEPs and several senior party figures have said they will quit in disgust if she is elected.

"The lion here looking pretty annoyed he's now forced to accept any work that comes up, even if it means being part of the UKIP logo", another added.

Ukip's chairman Paul Oakden was also unconcerned saying the party has "done their due diligence" in an interview with the BBC this lunchtime.

The fresh embarrassment comes the same day members selected a new party leader in former soldier Henry Bolton OBE.

Anti Islam campaigner Anne Marie Waters is the bookies favourite to be announced Ukip leader today.
