Sloppy Federer pushed all the way in Shanghai

The 19-time Grand Slam champion won the Australian Open and Wimbledon title this year while Nadal picked up the other two Grand Slams in the French Open and US Open. Of course, it is not the positive thing, because it's better don't have injuries.

Speaking at the Shanghai Masters, where Federer is also playing, Nadal said: "Of course it is a nice feeling (to win a tournament after injury)".

Nadal's resurgence after injury is one of the tennis storylines of 2017 along with the similar rejuvenation of old rival Roger Federer.

Nadal has suffered from knee problems for several years, but he had little trouble dispatching American Jared Donaldson 6-2, 6-1 within just 54 minutes in his first match in Shanghai on Wednesday. The final is on Sunday. "The main goal for me is to be healthy and to be competitive every week that I have been playing".

The Swiss ace skipped the entire clay court swing of the season, taking nearly a nine-week break in order to remain fresh for the rest of the campaign and give him a better chance in tournaments like Wimbledon and the US Open, which play more to his strengths unlike the clay court events.

Nadal and Federer are both in contention for the season-ending No. 1 ranking, although only Nadal can clinch that honor this week. "I was happy to have that early break in the sixth game".

Roger Federer of Switzerland returns a backhand shot against Diego Schwartzman of Argentina during their men's singles match at the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament in Shanghai, China, Wednesday, Oct. 11. "But at the same time, I feel that I worked all my life with the right attitude and passion for and love for this sport to try to make that happen".

Federer defeated Diego Schwartzman 7-6 (4), 6-4, winning the match with his 14th ace on his second match point.
