A vehicle belonging to a Shiv Sena leader on Thursday ran over and killed two teenaged girls on the Baramati-Morgaon Road in Maharashtra, according to reports.
One girl is also said to have been injured in the accident. Two girls died instantly in the accident that took place near the Baramati-Morgaon road.
After the accident, which took place at 7.30 am, an angry mob comprising local villagers set the vehicle on fire.
"According to our investigation, there were three to four people inside the auto when the accident took place, but Mane was not inside the SUV".
Police have found some suspicious objects in the auto, including a large knife and some tools needed for animal hunting, said sources. Locals allege that the auto belongs to a local Shiv Sena leader, Pappu Mane, who was allegedly indulging in rash driving.
The three arrested persons have been identified as Akash Jagtap, Rushikesh Chaudhar and Prithviraj Chavan, all residents of Baramati.
The police are registering a case and are now searching for Mane. "We have arrested the three suspects".
They managed to nab the driver of the vehicle who was later handed over to police.
According to eyewitnesses of the incident people sitting in the vehicle escaped the accident site leaving the auto. "I am not at liberty to reveal these details at this stage", said the police officer. "We have summoned him for questioning", he said, adding the law and order situation in the area was under control.
