'Wear Purple Day' for domestic violence awareness is October 19

Did you also know that almost 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S.?

According to the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on average 20 people are abused by an intimate partner every minute in the United States, equating to more than 10 million abuse victims annually.

Since October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, they are asking that people wear purple on Oct.19, which is also Tarleton State University Purple Thursday. They have information and referrals for other services such as legal service, financial help, counseling, housing, employment and medical care. "Nearly every person we interact with has a story or knows someone impacted by domestic violence and is grateful to have a simple way to get help for themselves or for someone they know".

She told the gathering "the scars you don't see are the most visible".

Each year in Hawaii, 50,000 women between the ages of 18 and 64 are harmed by domestic violence.
