With a combined vision of accelerating the growth of data adoption and providing Internet access to the 500 million plus feature phone users in India, both Micromax and BSNL will work collaboratively to introduce the best consumer mobile experience, the companies said in a joint statement on Tuesday. The Indian handset maker joins the ranks of Reliance Industries' 4G Volte featurephone JioPhone which is being sold for a Rs 1,500, refundable after three years. Titled "Bharat-1", the phone comes with entry-level specifications and offers unlimited data and calling every month for a sum of Rs 97. Micromax says that the Bharat 1 will start retailing from October 20.
While features of the phone has been kept under wraps, reports claimed that Bharat One might have features similar to the JioPhone.
Individually, the Micromax Bharat 3 offers a 4.5-inch display, and is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM.
At a media event, which saw Manoj Sinha, minister of communication and Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary to Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Government of India deliver speeches, BSNL executives said they see the launch of Bharat-1 as an opportunity to grow its user base. It will support 4G VoLTE and 22 languages.
It has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA selfie camera. Both Micromax and BSNL have been working with an aim to bring the next wave of unconnected users on the Internet.
Bharat 1 won't be confined to BSNL's network, The mobile can be used on any system, which implies a client can put an Airtel SIM or other network into the gadget. Perhaps it plans to coincide the debut of its network with the Bharat 1.
The Micromax Bharat 1 has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment. Users will also get the option to watch live TV on the Bharat 1.
In the future, Vodafone and Idea Cellular are also slated to come with their respective affordable feature phones and smartphones.
