Chiefs' Alex Smith lashed out at Steelers defender after late hit

"I thought it was about as flagrant as it gets when it comes to a low hit on the quarterback". "I felt there was nothing done there to avoid contact".

You can't see it in the clip above, but Mitchell also looked like he grabbed Smith's facemask earlier in the play before going low on the quarterback seconds later. Mitchell claimed that was the reason for his low hit on Smith after the game.

After the game Sunday, Smith said he was "fired up" after the hit but wasn't able to say whether he thought Mitchell's hit was intentional because he hadn't yet had a chance to watch video of the play.

Mitchell, who has been fined multiple times for hits on Sam Bradford, Tyler Eifert and Antonio Gates, is bound to be penalized again by the league this week.

On Monday, Mitchell said from Pittsburgh that he tripped and then was shoved by a teammate before hitting Smith.

Mike Mitchell has a reputation for playing dirty and he did nothing to dissuade his detractors of that notion late in Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Smith got up from the hit and started barking at Mitchell, who finished the afternoon with three tackles.

Mitchell went on to say that Smith was indeed upset with him immediately following the hit.

Luckily for Mitchell and the Steelers, the Chiefs red zone drive ultimately ended in no points scored as Kansas City failed on a fourth down and 2 play from the Steelers 4-yard-line.

"I walked up to him afterwards and said, 'C'mon, bro".
