Motorola's newest mod puts an Alexa speaker on your phone

Motorola's been teasing Alexa integration since Mobile World Congress in February. This moto mod is called Moto Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa and as it is kind of a snap-on Amazon Echo for your phone. The add-on is finally really real and set to start shipping next month.

Motorola has announced a new Moto Mod accessory for its Moto Z series of smartphones - Moto Smart Speaker with Amazon Alexa. If that doesn't matter to you, the Moto Smart Speaker will be able in November.

It's got four microphones, so it works hands-free. It's got a 5.2-inch 1920×1080 display, dual 12-megapixel and 8-megapixel rear cameras, and a 16-megapixel front camera. If you own a Moto Z, this is the accessory that is always ready to make your day go smoothly.

The largest downside to the latest Moto Mod is price. More importantly, it's about three times the price of the Echo Dot, making it a hard sell for all but the most loyal Moto Z owners.

Because Motorola's phones run on Android, the Moto Smart Speaker already has access to Google's voice assistant, which can handle numerous same tasks Alexa can. And with a 15-hour built-in battery, you won't kill your phone if you're constantly asking questions. The company suggests hotel rooms as a possibility - perhaps if you're looking for the comfort of a home assistant on the road?

Amazon says that this Prime Exclusive Moto X4 will be available starting today, October 18th, at 10:00 pm PT.
