Children shot at Northern California elementary school

The suspected shooter is dead, police said. Fox 5 reports there are more than 100 law enforcement officers at the school and up to five crime scene.

"Multiple students" have been airlifted from the scene according to Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston.

"It's a very sad day for us in Tehama County", said the deputy, who was visibly shaken by events.

A six-year-old child with two gunshot wounds was reportedly taken by helicopter to a hospital.

Witnesses told KRCR that two children were injured during the gunfire.

The incident was reported around 8:15 a.m.

Investigators say the shooting began at one location, with multiple shots fire, then moved to the elementary school.

An official at the Corning Elementary School District confirmed the elementary school in Rancho Tehama is on lockdown. Local law enforcement have blocked off the road that leads to the school.
