Two terrorists were killed by security forces after they opened fire at a police check post in the Handwara area.
Senior Superintendent of Police Handwara, Gulam Jeelani Wani said militants attacked a naka party of forces at Zachaldara, Handwara in the evening.
Officials said that troops of Rashtriya Rifles along with Special Operation Group were patrolling Zachaldara area when militants fired on the forces.
The militants targeted a police checkpoint after dusk, according to the police control room in Handwara.
The official said bodies of two militants have been recovered and their identification was being ascertained. A search was launched in the area after the encounter, the spokesman said. After no contact was established with the militants, the search operations at both the places were called off.
They said the police personnel retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
Four of his family members including father, two brothers and an aunt were also injured in the attack. In a separate case in south Kashmir's Shopian district, militants assaulted a Congress worker.
