It is Buhari's first visit to the region since taking office in 2015.

The Governors of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo and Kogi were present at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu to welcome the President to the southeast.

"As the most populous country in Africa with over 300 ethnic groups, our diversity is nearly unique among the nations", he added.

It was gathered that on arrival, the president inaugurated two multi-billion naira flyovers on the African trans-Saharan highway which passes through Abakaliki to Cross River and Cameroon.

All who is who in the state were on ground to welcome the President except the immediate past governor of the State, Chief Martin Elechi who was conspicuously missing.

Recall the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in a statement released by its spokesperson Emma Powerful, warned that "today will be recorded in history as a very bloody day should that Jubril masquerading as Buhari attempt to land on Biafran soil". Led by the late army major Odumegwu Ojukwu, a bid in 1967 by the mainly Igbo eastern region to secede from Nigeria culminated in a 30-month civil war that ended in Nigeria's favor.

At another event with South East traditional rulers led by Eze Eberechi Dick, the President was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Ochioha Ndigbo (Leader of Igbo people).

According to Lamorde, any individual or group of persons that fomented trouble before, during and after the visit would be dealt with, as people were advised to conduct themselves well.
