Gujarat Elections: BJP names 13 more candidates, drops 2 MLAs, repeats 4


With this, BJP has announced the names of candidates for 148 out of 182 Assembly constituencies. On the issue, the father-son duo took an astonishing step on Tuesday, which was the last day of nomination for the first phase of Gujarat Elections.

Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said D M Patel will contest from Botad seat, a Patel-dominated area where he faces senior BJP leader and state Finance Minister Saurabh Patel. Gujarat BJP's veteran leader Jitu Waghani who is in the fray from Bhavnagar West constituency with party president Amit Shah.

"We wanted to contest the polls in Gujarat with the Congress. Talks were going on for the past 20 days, but the Congress did not seem serious, and kept delaying the decision, thus leaving us with no option but to fight on our own", Patel told HT. The BJP has fielded Ramanbhai Patel from the seat.

The final picture is the political seat of Jamjodhar constituency, which is very important as the present state agriculture minister Chimanbhai Saapraria is in the fray as a BJP candidate. He stressed that people will choose politics of development over caste politics.

In the first list, the Congress gave tickets to only two members of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) as against the 20 seats demanded by the Hardik Patel-led organisation.

"Due to the understanding between the two national parties, no other party is able to come to power at the Centre".

The BJP today released its fifth list of 13 candidates for the second phase of Assembly polls in Gujarat, dropping two sitting MLAs. The result will be announced on December 18.
