Rian Johnson can't wait to start new Star Wars trilogy


The filmmaker hasn't even released Star Wars: The Last Jedi yet, but he's already planning a new trilogy of films.

As a new batch of merchandise is rolled out ahead of the film's release, Skellig Michael, and it's famous bee-hive huts have been given the Lego treatment.

He said: "We're gonna have to see".

Johnson continued: "But I can tell you this, what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world". I just thought, 'Well, she's got her next book written.' She'll call it A Piece of My Heart or something acerbic and witty. He's a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said: "We all loved working with Johnson on "The Last Jedi".

"Rian will do fantastic things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy".

This is the eighth installment in the series and has beaten Revenge of the Sith which clocked at 2 hours 20 minutes and The Force Awakens at 2 hours 15 minutes, while the shortest film was the original offering A New Hope from 1977 at 2 hours and 5 minutes.

The show will air on Disney's own upcoming streaming service by the end of 2019.

The first Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, opened a year ago with $155.1 million, making it the 13th-highest of all time.
