A woman passenger and an Air India (AI) duty manager slapped each other at the Indira Gandhi International Airport Tuesday morning after she was denied boarding for reporting late, the police said. "A lady passenger had to board Air India Flight No AI 019 to Ahmedabad at 0500 hrs".
According to a police official, the passenger slapped the Air India staff.
The norms stipulate that a passenger is supposed to arrive at least 45 minutes before the departure of the flight. "Later, both parties compromised and did not want any action", Sanjay Bhatia, DCP (airport) said.
The police said the passenger, a resident of Panchkula in Haryana, was booked on an AI flight for Ahmedabad, which was scheduled to take off at 5 a.m. "Arguments started between the passenger and Air India lady staff and the passenger slapped her". The duty manager also hit back.
Soon after, she got into a scuffle with a lady Air India staffer and reportedly slapped her. "Lady staff in retaliation also slapped her", Bhatia said. Both the passenger and the Air India staff later apologised to each other and the issue was amicably resolved, the spokesperson added.
It was, however, also reported that police were informed about the matter and that they were investigating the issue.
