Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made a movie to save their marriage

Hearts shattered everywhere when Brad Pitt, 53, and Angelina Jolie, 42, announced they were separating in September 2016, but the split didn't come until after they tried working through their personal problems.

The couple had been married for two years.

But Jolie said she's still glad they did the film.

For the last hour of the episode, Jolie opened up about everything-from her Hollywood upbringing to her high-profile marriage to actor Brad Pitt-and she left little unsaid.

The 42-year-old actress appeared on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast and described how she believed working on "By the Sea" with her husband would help their marriage.

The couple have had six children together - Maddox, 16, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and nine-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne - and met while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005. I thought it would be a great way for us to communicate.

But while "Mr. and Mrs Smith" was a sexy action comedy, Jolie's choice for them to do some more mature, "serious work" was the rather dreary and pretentious "By the Sea".

She continued: "It was something that we were dealing. things happen for different reasons, and things. why did I write that exact piece?" Why did we feel the way we did when we made it?

The film finds Pitt and Jolie starring as an American couple, her a former dancer and him a writer, who decide to stay at a hotel.

Despite everyting, Jolie says she doesn't have regrets about making the film, despite the fact that it didn't quite end up mirroring real life.

'A piece of art can be something that's healing or something that's hard. I started to learn more about what was happening, and I became more involved and I learned about refugees and U.N.H.C.R., and I wanted to educate myself further. "Whatever it was, maybe it didn't solve certain things, but we did communicate something that needed to be communicated to each other", she hinted.

The couple - who together have six children - met while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005, and Jolie candidly explained how she had a hard time in the decade after they sparked a romance.

'I don't enjoy being single. "It's not something I wanted", she told the Sunday Telegraph in September.
