Recall that Buhari has told the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II that nobody could disabuse nigerians on his clear conscience towards the nation, and its citizens concerning his electoral promises prior to the 2015 presidential election.

Buhari also recalled how he spent years in court challenging election results.

Speaking in Kano on Thursday, Buhari also appealed to Nigerians to be patient with his administration, promising that things will be better soon.

He was accompanied by his host, Governor Ganduje, Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State and the deputy governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakala.

Buhari said the release of the prisoners was part of the government's policy to decongest prisons across the country.

"I am overwhelmed by the massive turnout of people who left what they were doing to welcome me".

He congratulated Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for working very hard to improve the living standard of the people of the state through execution of projects that had direct bearing on them.

Buhari also gave the inmates an undisclosed amount of money that will enable them transport themselves to their respective towns and villages.

The president was accompanied to the Kano prison by the Minister of Interior, General Abdurrahman Danbazau, among others.

The inmates including men and women were selected from the Kurmawa Central Prison, Kano.

"We have a number of projects that are on-going and we hope you will visit the state in near future in order to commission such projects", Ganduje said. "I commended Ganduje for trying to make life easier for Kano People", Buhari said.

On that occasion, the President enjoined other governors to emulate Dr. Ganduje's efforts in the health sector.
