Is this the return of Luke Shaw?

Many fans have believed that Shaw's time at Old Trafford is nearing an end, with Newcastle United and Tottenham strongly linked with a move for the England worldwide, who has only made 50 appearances for United in three years.

Unsurprisingly given his lack of game time, Shaw succumbed to cramp late in the second half and opted to play the remaining 15 minutes in a more reserved manner, sitting back and allowing other players to attack down the left flank, yet that should take nothing away from his overall contribution.

'He managed to stay on for 90 minutes. The Red Devils tried to sign the left-back over the summer but could not get a deal across the line.

Scholes believes that it is important Mourinho selects Shaw more regularly, comparing him to former teammate Wayne Rooney.

Lukaku scored a goal borne of his strongest qualities following a fine early ball into the box from Paul Pogba. "The way he plays for the team is unbelievable".

Meanwhile Spurs defender Danny Rose has been strongly linked with a move to United during recent months following his fallout with Pochettino.

On Saturday Ashley Young played as a full-back, and while the former Aston Villa man has been superb in the role and deservedly was nominated for the November Player of the Month award.

Prior to the first start against CSKA Moscow, Shaw made two substitute appearances.

"Especially with the ball going forward, really unsafe, creating a lot, great intensity in his game, no surprise in minute 80 he is feeling the consequences of that intensity, is normal, first match of the season for him".

The upcoming run of fixtures will require a dependable back-up to 32-year-old Young and Mourinho has shown recently with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Victor Lindelöf that there is a way back from the abyss. But the United manager chose to give the left-back a chance and was pleased with how the player went about his business.
