Asher Angel has been cast as Billy Batson opposite Zachary Levi in New Line's DC superhero film "Shazam!", sources tell Variety. Shazam himself is the alter-ego of teenager Billy Batson who has the ability to say the word "Shazam", and transform into an adult superhero with the power of six mythological gods after saying the word. He can transform back and forth from his teen body to an adult by uttering the wizard's name, which also includes a bolt of lightning reigning down from the sky.
The report comes from Deadline who revealed that Dylan will don the role of a DC character known as Freddy Freeman. However, it's not known if this'll actually happen in the film. The film is set to begin production in Vancouver next year.
The young actor joins the cast which now features Zachary Levi as the titular superhero, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Grace Fulton, and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana.
Mark Strong is in talks for the role of the villain, while Grace Fulton will play one of Angel's friends. He recently confirmed that the target release date for the film is April 2019.
