Point & Kill: British Defense Secretary advocates death for citizens who join IS

Army Col. Rob Manning, a Pentagon spokesman, said American troops will remain in Syria for the foreseeable future, even as Islamic State nears defeat there and in Iraq, countries where the militants once controlled vast areas of land.

The United States now has approximately 2,000 troops on the ground in Syria, where they have been helping train and advise partner forces in the fight against ISIL. He ordered that the Pentagon disclose new troop totals in Syria.

Military officials said that the 2,000 personnel in Syria represented something of a high-water mark as the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria winds down.

About 2,000 American troops are in Syria fighting the Islamic State, a Pentagon spokesman said on Wednesday, nearly four times the total previously disclosed as the Trump administration changes how troop numbers are publicly counted.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict, said Thursday that IS still holds about eight percent of Deir Ezzor province.

To combat the activities of terrorist in the UK, British Defense Secretary is advocating death for all UK citizens that have joined IS struggle in Syria and Iraq.

The Pentagon's new public numbers reflect an approximation of deployed troops as of Wednesday, Manning said.

The U.S. military plans to stay in Syria as long as necessary to ensure the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) does not return, a Pentagon official told AFP on December 5.

"The Russian armed forces' goal to defeat armed groups of the ISIL terrorist organisation in Syria has been accomplished", said senior military officer Sergei Rudskoi, using an alternative acronym for the group.

"We are going to maintain our commitment on the ground as long as we need to - to support our partners and prevent the return of terrorist groups", Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon told AFP.

"To ensure an enduring defeat of ISIL, the coalition must ensure it can not regenerate, reclaim lost ground, or plot external attacks", he said.

"ISIS left a minefield when they started walking out", he said.

"All ISIS units in Syria have been destroyed, and the territory has been liberated".
