Gunmen abduct Plateau PDP chairman Damishi Sango, demand N100m


The son of the Peoples Democratic Party, Plateau State Damishi Sango, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

A source close to Sango said his (Sango) phone was used in contacting a chieftain of the party in Abuja to demand for the ransom.

"The family spoke with him and he assured them that he is safe".

The PDP national convention, during which the election for the party's national executive will take place, is scheduled for Saturday.

"They were on their way from Jos to Abuja on Wednesday evening when the kidnappers abducted them", he said.

Earlier on Thursday, Aliyu Mukhtar, spokesman of the Kaduna command, told TheCable that the police received a distress call around 6pm on Wednesday.

He said: "The spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command has told me that the Commissioner there has ordered his men to comb everywhere to rescue them".

"The inspector-general of police's (IGP's) anti-kidnapping team and the special tactical squad has swung into action to rescue the victims and arrest the hoodlums", he had said. Tyopev urged members of the public with any useful information to contact the Kaduna or Plateau Command.

Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Plateau, John Akans, confirmed the kidnap, further revealing the five were kidnapped while they were in transit from Jos to Abuja in preparation for the party's national convention.

PDP Plateau state Chairman, Hon. "We hope that security agencies will not only see to the release of the PDP chairman and other traveling party officials but put an end to kidnapping on that road".

"The incident happened in Jere, Kaduna State, and is not under my jurisdiction".
