Starting on December 12, Overwatch players can revel in some fun-filled, and snowy activities when the Winter Wonderland event returns. There'll be new and returning holiday themed character skins, for instance, with Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan teasing new Legendary skins for "two of our favourite junkers" (Junkrat and Roadhog, surely) in Blizzard's announcement video.
Winter Wonderland will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 when it launches next Tuesday, and the full line-up of 2017 seasonal skins will likely be revealed soon. "I think it's one of the most gorgeous jobs that our environmental artists have ever done", he says. Kaplan announced a new game mode in the developer update, this one once again featuring Mei.
The holidays are upon us, and you know what that means: new Overwatch stuff. It will still be playable in Antarctica as well. In the past Hanamura and King's Row received the Winter Wonderland treatment and this continues.
While Winter Wonderland is a revival of last year's event, Blizzard is bringing some major new additions.
The six-player boss fight mode will have players as five Meis pitted against a player-controlled Winston in Nepal Village.
In each match's early goings, Winston has to elude the crack team of adorable, infuriating ice assassins and collect power-ups until he can go into primal rage mode, at which point the tables turn. If he fully charges it up, the Meis will need to do whatever they can to escape. If Winston dies, the Meis win; if enough of the Meis die, Winston wins. If Winston, an innocent yeti who's just trying to live his life, man, falls amidst the Meis' blizzard of senseless violence, then they win.
