We will not allow Atiku to vote at our convention - PDP


Addressing newsmen in Abuja, PDP's National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said the ex-VP would be part of the convention and would deliver a speech but will not vote because he was not qualified based on the provisions of the party's constitution. It's a good omen to everybody in the PDP. We have credible information that some overzealous elements in the government are trying by any means to disrupt the convention of the PDP; to make sure this convention does not hold successfully.

He said that Nigerians had given the party a second chance and called on leaders and members not to throw away the opportunity.

A Senior Manager at Top Rank Hotel in Utako told The Guardian that the hotel was fully booked on Monday December 4, 2017 with most of the rooms occupied by politicians.

The party, he said, would make available the list of accredited delegates to all aspirants at least 48 hours before the convention to diffuse the rumour that the list has been altered to suit selected aspirants.

He said the party had "credible information" that some "overzealous elements in the government" were planning to "disrupt" the convention. "Thereafter, all of us would unite to take power from APC come 2019".

He urged Buhari to go the extra mile to ensure that the PDP convention was successful by providing sufficient security in and around the arena.

According to Adeyeye, disrupting the convention is tantamount to disrupting the country's democracy.

On his part, chairman of PDP's BoT, Sen Walid Jibrin, said "As the party joyfully welcomes Atiku back to his home PDP, we are equally waiting to receive more members of the APC, including Sen".

"In a related development, Key stakeholders in the Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday stormed the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, protesting what they called fake delegates" list compiled for the state.

An Ex-minister of Mines and Steel, Wole Oyelese has accused the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike of plotting to destroy the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by supporting Uche Secondus for selfish reasons.

Earlier, Makar disclosed that the visit was in line with the tradition of the PDP where elders and leaders of the party are consulted for the right decisions to be taken.
