Public Information Officer for Greenville Police Department Kathy Lucas released more information about the shooting death of 7-year-old Kaden Green.
Funeral arrangements for Green were pending Friday with Love and Integrity Funeral Home in Greenville. Castillo and Craig were arrested in a Walgreens parking lot by McKinney police officers.
McKinney officers then found the suspect's auto in a drugstore parking lot and then gave chase when the vehicle fled into Frisco and was cornered at a dead-end street, NBC5 reported. At the same time, they were told a 7-year-old gunshot victim was taken to a hospital and died soon after.
Two people, Brooke Ashley Craig and Cameron Rafael Castillo, Green's father, were taken into custody early Friday morning.
During an investigation, Greenville PD issued a capital murder arrest warrant for Brooke Craig.
Acting on advice from the Greenville Police Department this morning McKinney officers spotted Craig's vehicle at a Walmart.
Lucas said Castillo stopped the vehicle while Craig and an unnamed witness checked on the children.
Police said the two other children who were in the vehicle were placed in the custody of the state.
After the shooting, the vehicle came to a stop and Craig and a witness approached it, police said.
Police said the father had sought to remove himself and the children from a "volatile situation" following the girlfriend's arrival at the boyfriend's home.
Of note, CPS said their department had previous contact with the boy's family but that the details were confidential.
The arrest follows a domestic disturbance call in Greenville late Thursday afternoon.
Craig and Castillo, who was her passenger, were arrested without incident after their vehicle struck a police cruiser while attempting to back up, police said. Both were taken to the Collin County Jail. Jail records did not list an attorney for him.
