Kaplan locals are showing their support for USA teacher Deyshia Hargrave, who was handcuffed and forcibly removed from a school board meeting. Puyau has since tearfully stated that he blames himself for this incident for not speaking up in Hargrave's defense at the time of her arrest. I just went back to work from Christmas break yesterday, and I attended a school board meeting where I planned to hear concerns or watch a vote take place about the superintendent's contract.

On Wednesday, the Louisiana Association of Educators released Hargrave's video statement.

The officer arrested Hargrave on charges of "remaining after being forbidden" and resisting an officer, but she bonded out of the Abbeville jail once her mug shot was taken.

"Honestly, he is very well liked at our school", she said. She adds that Hilts has a good relationship with students and teachers.

We "can always use more money in the classroom", he told "Today". No details were immediately available on the superintendent's pay, benefits or raise.

"I teach kids daily to treat everyone with respect and to speak out when they witness something that is wrong", Hargrave said Thursday.

But as video of Hargrave's arrest spread around the world, the superintendent said he and his family have received death threats. School board offices were closed briefly a day after the meeting. For those threats against them, more people were hurt. After a verbal exchange, school board member Kibbie Pillette said Vermilion Parish School Board President Anthony Fontana beckoned to a school resource officer hired by the board, who confronted Hargrave, ordering her to get her things and go.

She added: "It's sad that a woman has to be forcibly, violently removed from a board meeting for people to start caring".

The video does not show what happened immediately after the two got into the hallway, but Hargrave can be seen on the floor, being handcuffed.
