Kevin Gilyard-who goes by the stage name Kevin Gates-had been serving time at the East Moline Correctional Center since April 2017. He walked out after serving nine months of a 30-month sentence in an IL state facility on a weapons charge. He was originally sentenced to 30-months for a gun charge, so he was released on parole which carries some conditions like mandatory supervision and can not be in possession of any firearm, at least until his probation ends.

A popular rap musician is now free, after being released from a prison in the Quad Cities on Wednesday. On Oct. 26, 2016, the recording artist was convicted of the charge and was later sentenced to six months in prison.

Gates was released from custody previous year after an alleged incident involving a female fan at a Florida concert, but then he was immediately re-arrested on an outstanding weapons-released charge in IL.
