Boat capsizes with 40 students near Maharashtra's Dahanu; 4 dead reported

A boat with 40 school children on board capsized in the coastal town of Dahanu in Maharashtra. "Rescue teams from other departments are also there". So far 32 children are rescued.

4 children died in a mishap which occurred this morning off the cast at Mumbai when the boat in which they were travelling capsized. The police have confirmed the death of four out of 40.

Immediately, District Police and the locals rushed in and saved the students. The school is said to be KL Ponda high school from Dahanu.

Reports suggest that the boat, which was overloaded, lost balance and capsized. According to eye witnesses, the boat was overcrowded and the students were not wearing life jackets. Coast Guard has flown its helicopters for search opera, ' he added.

The coast guard has diverted at least three ships and two aircraft to the site. The accident took place place today two nautical miles from the shore of the Arabian Sea.
