"We have always said that there's no reason to let Keita leave early and that's the way it will be".

Liverpool have not been quoted a fee to make the deal happen, and the public comments from the German side are not encouraging.

Last summer Liverpool agreed a deal worth over £50 million to sign Keita in July 2018.

Coutinho secured his £142million exit from Barcelona earlier this month, having enjoyed a successful five years at Liverpool.

Philippe Coutinho has thanked Steven Gerrard for helping him "become a better player" at Liverpool.

Liverpool appear to be keeping their transfer business very close to their chest since last summer's debacle with Van Dijk, but the names they are being linked with should allow fans to feel excited.

However, Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl told reporters on Thursday that Keita remains a part of his plans for the foreseeable future.

It's a 21-second clip of some of Keita's best passes for the club, but Leipzig started the tweet with the word, 'OFFICIAL: Naby Keïta's...'

Coutinho was Barcelona's main target after Neymar's departure, but the club ended up signing 20-year-old France forward Ousmane Dembele after the failed negotiations with Liverpool.

The entire tweet, as you can see, read: "OFFICIAL: Naby #Keïta's passes are pretty good #DieRotenBullen".

In addition to the statistical improvements Keita would offer Liverpool, he is also accustomed to playing within a system which focuses on intense, co-ordinated pressing, and whose ability to transition quickly between defence and attack is key.

The Guinea worldwide, who joined Leipzig from Salzburg in summer 2016, has featured 20 times in all competitions so far this term, producing five goals and one assist.

"There was a lot of controversy and talk, maybe it's a time when you just want to get your head down and settle in, " he said.
