What was hinted at in Atwood's novel can now be fully realized in The Handmaid's Tale season 2.
The Handmaid's Tale comes to Hulu from MGM Television and is created, executive produced and written by Bruce Miller and executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken, and Elisabeth Moss.
'You sort of intimidate yourself. You can try, but you won't do it. MGM serves as the global distributor for the series. Season two will premiere on Hulu in April 2018.
A series of new images from the second season were released today, including looks at a bloodied Offred (née June), and a Handmaid's funeral. Miller protests. "I just want the viewers to experience it for themselves!"
He did reveal to Entertainment Weekly the next season will explore the lives of the refugees who've escaped Gilead, as well as those who have been exiled to the contaminated Colonies. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids - where anyone could be a spy for Gilead - all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
"Everything from the design of their costumes to the way they look is so chilling".
"These scenes that are so lovely, while set in such a bad place, provide the kind of contrast that makes me happy", showrunner Bruce Miller tells EW of the stills.
He is equally happy about his leading lady, who picked up two best actress gongs in the past week for her work on the show. "I literally read the scripts and I think, 'Oh my god.' The ideas are genius and so unpredictable and harrowing", she said.
