For Alexa integration, Klipsch is employing Amazon's Connected Speaker APIs to enable you to control its speakers with commands spoken to any device equipped with the virtual assistant - like the Echo or Echo Dot.

Just which Toyota and Lexus models will have Amazon Alexa hasn't been announced, the automaker told The Car Connection in an email.

Alexa will appear in certain Toyota and Lexus models.

Toyota Adding Alexa to Select Cars in 2018

Toyota announced Tuesday that they will be incorporating Alexa in select Toyota and Lexus cars in 2019.

Although Alexa users already have access to the voice assistant on PCs via an Amazon-sanctioned website, the partnership with PC manufacturers will make the usage of Alexa an experience that is much more integrated into using the PC. A motorist can ask Alexa to play music, order a cup of coffee from a nearby Starbuck's, or operate various home automation devices, turning up the thermostat or turning on the lights at home, for example.

The service will also enable new features in the cars themselves, such the ability to start the engine remotely or lock the auto doors, by giving a command through another Alexa device in the home or elsewhere. This latest move by Amazon seems more like an attempt to challenge Cortana, rather than work with it, unless it proves to be the first chapter in showing how Alexa and Cortana will be mutual supportive. "This integration means that customers can interact with Alexa, virtually anywhere they drive". "It's still really day one for us in terms of what we can do with Alexa in the vehicle", said John Scumniotales, head of products for Alexa's automotive efforts, onstage at a CES event. General Motors plans to offer even more expanded e-commerce applications when it finishes integrating the Amazon service into its new GM Marketplace in the months to come.
