Arsene Wenger confirms Alexis Sanchez's transfer is 'imminent' after Manchester United's offer

Arsenal's pre-match preparation for their match against Bournemouth was overshadowed by the news that Alexis Sanchez did not travel with them to the Vitality Stadium.

Sanchez was left on the bench for the Carabao Cup semi final against Chelsea partly because of the transfer issue and the distance it had placed between him and his team-mates during training sessions in the run up to the game.

He has been at Arsenal since 2014. You want to focus on the players who are on the pitch and can do well for the club.

Sanchez was thought to be heading to either Manchester City or United, but now Liverpool have registered an interest in Arsenal's Chilean forward.

Mkhitaryan has since returned to the fold, but United are aware of Wenger's admiration of the attacking midfielder and his involvement in the Sanchez pursuit could hold the key to United beating City to the forward.

Discussions are believed to be underway between Klopp and Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group about lodging a potential bid for Sanchez, although it will be hard for the Merseyside club to persuade the Chilean to move to Anfield due to both City and United being able to offer significantly higher wages than the Reds.

The battle for Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez seems to be winding down, with all signs pointing towards the Chilean heading towards the blue part of Manchester.

"His situation is not completely decided one way or the other, so I left him at home". United boss Jose Mourinho - as of recent - has been plotting to intercept the Sanchez move, as the issue of whether he signs in January or in the summer is yet to be determined.

Wenger said: "Yes. Don't read too much into it though because not even I know which way it will go".
