Rex Burkhead Reportedly Will Miss Patriots Playoff Opener

Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee will not play against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC divisional round game.

Both Burkhead and Gillislee practiced in a limited capacity and were listed as questionable.

Rex Burkhead appeared to be trending toward a return from a knee injury he suffered against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the wake of all the recent injuries, Dion Lewis has stepped up as the workhorse of the Patriots backfield. Prior to Week 16 against the Bills, Gillislee was sidelined for six straight games - five as a healthy scratch and one due to illness. Britt played in three games for the Patriots this season and caught two passes.

Patriots receiver Chris Hogan will also be active.

The New England Patriots will be without two of their running backs on Saturday.

Burkhead, who injured his knee during the December 17 game against the Steelers and hasn't played since, has 518 yards from scrimmage and eight TDs this season. His absence means increased playing time for Derrick Henry, who rushed for 156 yards in last weekend's victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Titans possess a stout run defense but struggle more than any other team at covering running backs in the passing game.
