"We are now in the midst of a very active flu season with much of the nation experiencing widespread and intense activity", CDC Director Brenda Fitzgerald told reporters during a briefing.

Data from some mid-Missouri counties show the number of confirmed flu cases doubled compared to the 2016-17 flu season.
"Like many hospitals around the state, we're seeing higher volumes as a result of this stuff but we're managing that process and working through it", said Phillips.
There have been 48 flu-related deaths in England so far this winter. The virus claimed the lives of 20 children in the state in 2017, but no pediatric deaths have been reported thus far in 2018.

Both hospitals were diverted last night from time to time because of the influx of patients suffering flu-like symptoms.
