Texas Tech basketball posted another top 10 win Saturday, knocking off No. 2 West Virginia at home in a thrilling 72-71 triumph.

For context, West Virginia dropped its season-opener, but entered today's game on a 15-game win streak. When we came into this league, I don't think anybody even really knew who we were. He's anall-conference player in the Big 12 for a reason.

While the Oklahoma win is obviously better, the Baylor win showed me more about this team.

With the win, the Red Raiders (15-2 overall, 4-1 in the Big 12) improved their home record to 12-0. Esa Ahmad added 18 in his season debut after an NCAA academic suspension. (13.8) at the guards with sophomores West (12.9), Wesley Harris (6.1) and Sagaba Konate (9.0) at the forwards.

"He's played well in practice is all I know", Huggins said. "We just did a lot of things out of character from what we normally do". Midway through the second half, the Red Raiders cut the lead to one as they continued to comeback. Carter made a 3 for the final margin with less than a second to go, and the Mountaineers couldnt foul Smith before the buzzer sounded, prompting a wild celebration.

"It was wonderful", Francis said.

If Gray is unable to suit up, it would mark the first time he's not played in a game since a neutral-site contest against Mississippi Stateas part of the Puerto Rico Tipoff back on November 20, 2015. "It was great you had our back".

Texas Tech coach Chris Beard said his team will prepare for Ahmad to play his usual allotment of minutes.

With only two minutes remaining, the Red Raiders tied the game, 65-65. Okonkwo had 12 rebounds, Moore had 17 points and 11 boards and Toree Thompson had 14 points.

(1) CT 95, HOUSTON 35: Reserve Azura Stevens had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead four players in double-figure scoring, and visiting UConn (15-0, 5-0 American Athletic) used a strong defensive effort to rout Houston (14-5, 3-2). The Mountaineers will have a chance to get the bad taste of this game out of their mouth against the Jayhawks.

Texas Tech: The Red Raiders may have found another key contributor in Francis, a junior transfer from Florida who sat out last season.

Jones was averaging 13.5 points for the Longhorns this season and had missed five of the Longhorns' previous seven games with an undisclosed illness before Wednesday's announcement. "Starting Senior Forward Zach Smith (6'8" 220-lbs) did not play against the Sooners due to an injury and is still day to day. Smith has been a starter and team leader.

Tech's leading scorer in the game was Evans, who put up 20 points in the win while also picking up five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Ahmad's impact was immediate after coming off the bench early in the first half. The junior forward shot 6-of-12 from the floor, including two 3s, and grabbed six rebounds.

In the first half, the Red Raiders and Mountaineers battled back and forth as the lead changed eight times before the Mountaineers would establish a 38-31 lead heading into halftime. Evans was 8 of 9 from the line and Stevenson made all six of his free throws as Texas Tech went 24 of 28.

West Virginia is scheduled to host Kansas for an 8 p.m. Monday contest.
