Manchester United took a chunk out of Manchester City's large lead in the English Premier League by beating relegation-threatened Stoke 3-0 in a one-sided match featuring spectacular goals by Antonio Valencia and Anthony Martial on Monday.

The likes of Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford, but Jose Mourinho has declared he will only allow the defender to depart.

The third goal eventually arrived in the 72nd minute when Romelu Lukaku shrugged off a couple challenges before drilling the ball home from close.

Paul Pogba turns in man of the match display to dominate the Potters.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hailed Paul Pogba and said his team's profile was changing to suit the midfielder. "So it was good for them to lose, but we have to think about ourselves winning". Despite missing ten games through injury Pogba has got nine assists in the Premier League this season which is more than any other player also he is unbeaten in 35 games for United which is most by any player.

Mourinho won the League Cup and Europa League in his first season in charge, though United finished sixth in the league. They just had the one chance at the end with Diouf when we were 3-0 up with wonderful goals.

Valencia blasted United into a ninth-minute lead after cutting inside on to his unfavored - but still potent - left foot and hammering into the far corner, well beyond the reach of visiting goalkeeper Jack Butland.

The France worldwide was pivotal to the victory, registering assists for the game's first two goals. At 2-0, it was hard for them to react as we were in control of the game.

Stoke's new manager Paul Lambert, appointed earlier on Monday to replace the recently sacked Mark Hughes, watched from the stands as Valencia put United ahead.

Mame Biram Diouf had a glorious chance to pull one back for Stoke within the final ten minutes.

"In the second half, we played confidently and fast and aggressive and I liked the second half", Mourinho said about United's performance in the second half.

Again it was Pogba who provided the assist with a smart pass across the box that Martial whipped into the net with a measured first-time strike.

"He (Sanchez) is a good player".
