The son of former Sacramento Kings head coach Rick Adelman died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a street in Houston on February 2.

R.J.'s brother, David, is an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets.

R.J. Adelman grew up in OR and lettered four years playing basketball at Willamette University. He reportedly wasn't using a crosswalk.

Police said R.J. Adelman, 44, was hit by a driver as he crossed the street the afternoon of February 2.

Adelman was transported to the hospital in serious condition and was pronounced dead 4 hours later. The Harris County medical examiner determined Adelman died as a result of blunt force injuries, according to TMZ. The driver was questioned and released without charges, but the accident is still under investigation.

R.J. Adelman was also a former director of player personnel for the Wolves, and was an assistant when his father was head coach of the Houston Rockets. He last led Minnesota from 2011-14. "The Kings organization joins the National Basketball Association community in sorrow as our thoughts, prayers and support are with the Adelman family at this most hard time". May he rest in peace.
