Blow for Man City & Liverpool: Zidane discusses Isco's Real Madrid future

The Italian defender tugged at the French star's shirt, exchanged words before the Real Madrid playmaker took leave of his senses and head-butted Materazzi in the chest.

Spanish sports newspaper AS linked Premier League clubs Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool with a move for the former Malaga man, claiming Zidane had made a decision to cut his losses on a player whose exit could clear the way for Chelsea star Eden Hazard to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

"I'm glad you've asked me".

"You were all asking before why I did not want to sign players in January", Zidane said. 'I said I've always believed in my team and I will do until the very end.

That has seemingly sparked attention around Europe in signing the 25-year-old, with five Premier League clubs interested in securing his signature.

"When I start something I get involved, I believe where I'm going, what I should be doing and I back the people I'm working with".

One of the Premier League's leading lights, Hazard has been among the few positives in a Blues team in freefall this season, with his 13 goals so far (Isco has seven) making him the English champions' top scorer in 2017/18. I want Isco to spend all his career here.

'He's a superb player and he's shown that, it's not true we want to sell him. "Hopefully we won't hear any more of this".

Real's season is fast becoming a write-off, with the club out of the Copa del Rey, 19 points behind Barcelona in La Liga and tipped to lose to PSG in the Champions League round of 16.

During the final between France and Italy at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Zinedine Zidane was shown a red card for headbutting Materazzi following a brief exchange of words in the last few moments of the game.
