Jamie Anderson captured the women's event, which aired live Sunday evening in the United States, with a gold-medal score of 83.00.
The 27-year-old Anderson, who won the initial slopestyle event at the Sochi Games, spent the past four years adding a double-cork 1080 to her repertoire, and the twice-flipping jump separated her from silver medalist Laurie Blouin of Canada and bronze-winning Enni Rukajarvi of Finland.
USA snowboarder Jamie Anderson won the women's snowboard slopestyle competition at the Winter Olympics in South Korea on Monday, successfully defending the gold medal she won at the Sochi Olympics in 2014.
Anderson's gold marks Team USA's second gold medal of PyeongChang 2018 after snowboarder Red Gerard won gold over the weekend. The qualifying heats were canceled because of poor weather, so the 25-women field advanced to a gold-medal showdown.
Strong cross-winds at Pyeongchang's Phoenix Snow Park have played havoc during the first run of the women's snowboard slopestyle final on Monday. The top global contender is Austrian Anna Gasser, who also is known for her tricks. Two of Anderson's fellow Americans in the field, Jessika Jenson and Haley Langland, finished in the top 10. 'It's a s-tshow, ' said Dutch rider Cheryl Maas.
While she didn't land a clean run to finish, she was good enough for gold for the second straight Olympics.
