Team USA captures bronze in figure skating team event

US figure skater Mirai Nagasu became the first American woman to land a triple axel in the Olympics. She finished fourth in the free skate, missing out on a medal.

Monday's action in South Korea will start with Rippon taking to the ice for the men's free skate at 10 a.m. locally (8 p.m. ET Sunday), while Nagasu, a 2010 Olympian, will represent in the women's free skate beginning at 11:10 a.m. (9:10 p.m. ET Sunday).

Heading into the competition, the United States sat in 3rd place behind 2nd place Olympic Athletes From Russia and 1st place Canada. Download the Team USA app today. The Shibutanis are also skating both programs, having finished second in Sunday's short dance. "And at that moment I wanted to stop the music and get off, but I still had my whole program ahead of me, and to complete the performance to the best of my ability is really exciting".

Olympic Athletes from Russia's Alina Zagitova rounded out the group and completed a solid, strong performance that will give her teammates a run for their money. She took first ahead of Nagasu by almost 21 points. Five countries advance to the free skates.

After the women's team free skate program, Team USA received 9 points, lifting them to 53 points overall and putting them in 3rd place going into the final team event.
