An encounter is underway at the 23 Bn CRPF camp in Srinagar's Karan Nagar, where two armed-terrorists were stopped in the wee hours of Monday.

The militants fled from the spot, the spokesman said, adding searches were going on in the area to track down the ultras. The attack comes close on the heels of the strike on the Sunjwan Army camp in Jammu by a group of Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists, which left six people, including five Army personnel, dead and ten others injured.

According to a senior police official, the CRPF jawan was wounded in the shootout as the security forces prepared for a final assault against the holed-up terrorists.

Meanwhile, the operation at Sunjuwan Military Station entered Day 3 with the army launching a combing operation on Sunday night.

A paramilitary CRPF man was killed in an ongoing gunfight at Karanagar area of Srinagar City on Monday morning.

Police sources said there were an exchange for fire between the militants and security forces. Suspecting they could be militants, the soldiers challenged them.

Sheh Paul Veid, Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K); wrote on twitter, "I congratulate alert CRPF sentry for averting Suicidal attack in Karan nagar Srinagar. They ran into the nearby building behind National School", said Yadav.
